You’re gonna laugh at me again… but this has been my favorite Jolie book yet. I know I say that every time, but I mean it this time!

Ruin was the dark side of the McRae clan I didn’t know I needed, and now will never let go of. Of course, we’ve had our dark moments throughout the other hot Scots’ books, but this was just *fans self*

Trigger Warnings:

This book contains mentions to kidnapping, violence, abuse (verbal, physical, and emotional), forced confinement, sexual content

Okay, now, on to the review bits!

Review:

Struan and Thea were excellent characters. Thea was naïve, and while this characterization usually irritates me, it was so well communicated that 1) it wasn’t her fault, and 2) she hated being that way and actively worked to change it. Loved it. Struan needed a swift kick in the tush every now and then, but he got his act together too.

This world has already been pretty fleshed out in the previous Scots’ books, but the new island was well developed, and our new places and people were also fleshed out amazingly.

The plot was dark and gritty and uncomfortable at times, but it was well executed, mostly resolved, and had some twists even I didn’t see coming.

Jolie is just a pure talent at using her words to completely suck me in from the first page and never let go. I humbly await the next installment (so I can say that one is my new favorite).

I wanted him. He wanted to ruin me. It was the blood I noticed first. Running down the neck of the man on the ferry. Then his bruised knuckles, dark eyes, and arrogant smirk. The handcuffs came last. No one else paid him attention, but I couldn’t look away. Or deny my instant lust. I had no idea he was being imprisoned on the remote, dark Scottish island I knew well. Or that he’d been kidnapped, not arrested. I went from that naïve girl on the boat, dreaming of stolen kisses, to the one who held the key to his prison cell. When heat turns to hate, all that’s left is ruin. — Ruin (Dark Island Scots, #1) is a new adult romance with dark themes, including angst, lust-to-hate-to-love, and lost innocence. This series will be deeply interconnected, so expect the occasional wicked cliffhanger (and McRae cameo). It’ll be well worth the heart palpitations. Lose yourself in Ruin.

For the rest of the McRae clan books, start with Storm the Castle the first book in the Marry the Scot series, then go on to the Wild Scots series with Hard Nox, and then catch up with our favorite mountain rescue team with Obsessed, book one in the Wild Mountain Scots series. These series can be read out of order, but it’s much more enjoyable to read them the way god (Jolie) intended.
